What a surprise to learn that Congress has lined their pockets with stock transactions that was completely legal to do. For many years, many Congressman and Senators have traded stocks on information that they have received from inside information during pending legislation or knowledge of companies which might fail. The Obama health care bill is just one prime example .During this time in 2009,the legislators were meeting in private behind closed doors, even though Obama said during his campaign that everything ,including drafting legislation would be held in public,to be televised on C-Span.During this time ,many parts of the bill being discussed allowed the Congressmen to trade on information that would affect many of the players in the health care bill.Such as,insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and health care companies.Even the ones who voted against this bill or parts of it made hundreds of thousands of dollars on information that nobody else knew. But wait,we are to told this is legal because they exempted themselves long ago.
We are constantly told by these politicians that they have sacrificed greatly by being a public servant.Maybe some of them could make more money in the private market, but many become the hated wealthy during their time in Congress. Not only that, but they make it off the taxpayers back, such as donations and lobbyists contributed to their campaigns. We can't get one e-mail or piece of mail without them asking for a donation. They are constantly begging for money. This comes on top of their salaries and benefits, which according to Peter Schweizer's book, Throw Them All Out,the rank and file Congress make an average of $285,000 a year, with committee heads making more. They also get around $1.3 million for staff and other outrageous expenses. If it is one thing that they should quit spouting to us ,it is that they are public servants. The truth is they suck off the taxpayers while getting special treatment that none of us get in the private sector. The fact is the private sector shouldn't get special treatment, nor should Congress. So stop with the public servant crap.
There are so many perks and favors the Congress enjoys,it would take us many days of research to dispose all of them.So all of the occupy wall streeters (OWS) should take their protests to Washington D.C.They say they are protesting big business because they control the Government.Maybe that is true to an extent, but the people who run our Government are the ones who accept the money and graft from these companies. So call your Senator and Congressman and let them know how you feel about it.If these politicians wouldn't submit to the bribes, the crony capitalism would stop. The buck stops with your legislators. They are the problem, not the people or businesses trying to influence legislation. If the Congress would get out of stifling regulation and leave the private sector alone, then capitalism would take care of itself. This is why this country is great or at least once was.
If the average worker wants to make a difference in the way Washington works, then they have to reach and effect the right people, and that is their legislators and the current administration.Pick up a copy of Peter Schweizer's book.
